Haiti

 Haiti

Haiti is a Caribbean country in the island chain, closest to the Dominican Republic with its main language as Creole which is a french based language. Haiti was pretty early in the Caribbean island chain to gain their independence, which they obtained in 1804.

Haiti has been conquered by a few countries, first by Christopher Columbus for Spain in 1492 when he "accidentally" came across it on the search for something else. Haiti was then conquered by France with slight British control in 1625 up until their Independence in 1804. The french conquering Haiti for so long is the reason the base of their language is french/ broken french.

Haiti was considered one of the first in the Caribbean island chain to gain their independence making them pretty self sufficient for some 200 years plus. This is good for them because it has given them time to figure things out and make the best of their government.

As Haiti was starting to get back on their feet, they got hit with a massive earthquake in 2010, absolutely wrecking the country, destroying everything and taking countless lives. Haiti has yet to fully recover from the earthquake which has caused a lot of fighting and controversy in the government scene of things.

the three countries I want to research are, Puerto Rico, Aruba, and Bahamas
