Introduction
Racism is still widely evident throughout the entire world, not only in America. It has many far-reaching tentacles which have existed for centuries. Not exempt from these tentacles, is the island country of Puerto Rico and its native people, the Taino. Its native peoples were systematically erased by European colonists and replaced by African slaves. Throughout the centuries, the slaves have remained and have bred with the those of different cultures and races. These mixed races are both a sign of progression as well as a continuing source of controversy, as they struggle to find their own identities.
